Star Group Veterans Helping Veterans put a smile on the faces of area Families when they held another successful event where we handed out Thanksgiving Baskets. SGVHV provided everything for over 400 families so they could have a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner. Baskets were handed out on Saturday, November 17th at SGVHV Headquarters, located at 202 S. 4th Street in Copperas Cove, Texas. The Thanksgiving Baskets consisted of a Turkey and all the trimmings for a full Thanksgiving Meal to area Veterans and their families who might not otherwise have a had a traditional Thanksgiving meal.
225 Thanksgiving Baskets were given to the Copperas Cove, Killeen, Harker Heights and Nolanville Independent School District Homeless Awareness Response Programs (HARP), which selected the recipients and to active duty families of the Audie Murphy School on Fort Hood. SGVHV President Jonathan Haywood handed the first Basket to Dr Burn of Copperas Cove ISD who in turn passed it to Dr Craft of Killeen ISD. This was representative that kindness has no boundaries or City lines.
Also SG-VHV selected other nonprofit organizations to provide names of individuals to receive the remaining baskets. These organizations were Harker Heights Vet Center, AFGE Union 1920 of Fort Hood, Copperas Cove WIC Office, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 29, WAC Chapter 94, Jesus Hope Ministry, Copperas Cove Soup Kitchen, Comanche Chapel (Fort Hood) and other Veterans & Civilians Families selected by SG-VHV Members. Thank you to those Organizations for their help!
SGVHV would like to thank our Premier Corporate Sponsors, PCSI, Copperas Cove Century 21 & JR Herring Rentals, United National Bank, Linnemann Realty, Ted Smith Law Office, AFGE Local 1920 & District 10, Scott’s Funeral Home and All American Chevrolet.
