Star Group – Veterans Helping Veterans collaborates with the owners of Lil Tex Restaurant to give a motorized wheelchair to an area veteran. When Jackie Ossler, owner of Lil Tex Restaurant asked Mr. Haywood, president of Star Group – veterans Helping Veterans if he knew anyone who would benefit from a motorized wheelchair, he began searching. The next day while Mr Haywood was visiting the veterans at the Stoney Brook Retirement Center, he was talking with Mr. Hensley. Mr. Hensley, a retired Sgt. Major was asking for assistance with re-filing VA papers to get a motorized wheelchair. Mr. Haywood knew this might just be a blessing. He contacted Ms. Jackie to see if the chair was still available. Once everything was put in place he contacted Stoney Brook and asked if Mr. Hensley could attend the SG-VHV November monthly meeting. All arrangements were made and everything was set.
Mr. Hensley arrived at the newly renovated SG-VHV building located at 202 S. 4th Street, Copperas Cove. The surprised was during the meeting when Mr. Barker (Treasurer of SG-VHV) rolled out the motorized wheelchair.
The chair was presented to Mr. Hensley and he was all smiles. As he sat in the chair he began to experiment with the controls; It was wonderful to see the expression of joy all over his face. Mr. Hensley (also a lifetime member of SG-VHV) has always been an avid supporter of the work of SG-VHV.
It is nice when area businesses (Lil Tex Restaurant) and SG-VHV collaborate and support another Veteran
